Power Outage Update — Friday Morning

April 5, 2024
6:35 a.m.

Good morning.

Power is still down in the south loop (see attachment). We are getting indications of pockets of power coming back in Brunswick, but we have no estimate on when full campus power will be restored.

Weather should be mild today with light rain by afternoon.

The College had planned to open all offices by 8:30 a.m. That has been extended due to the outage. All offices are now scheduled to open at 11:00 a.m.

Both Thorne and Moulton are serving this morning. Thorne will remain open for your general use at least until power is restored. The heath center will be open for regular hours.

Friday classes will proceed as scheduled. Faculty will communicate any changes directly with their students.

Randy

The Storm, Power, Classes

April 5, 2024
6:30 a.m.

Dear faculty and students,

As you saw from Tama's message of a few minutes ago, power has not yet been restored to those parts of campus on south loop that were out yesterday.

Once again, I ask faculty in those affected buildings (those buildings will be cold today), as well as those faculty who cannot make it to campus or who remain without the ability to hold classes online, to communicate with their students about the status of their classes.

Students, please check email frequently for updates about your own classes.

And again, everyone, please take care,

Jen

The Storm, Power, Classes

April 4, 2024
9:59 a.m.

Good morning,

I'm sorry to be writing you about another power outage, but as you just learned from Randy Nichols, some buildings on campus have lost power. Some of you are likely already in classes in those buildings or about to go to classes there.

I also understand that some faculty, in anticipation of today's storm, already alerted their students to the status of classes: in person, over Zoom or Teams, or canceled.

I leave it to individual faculty to make decisions about their classes today. In the past, some faculty have elected to teach in buildings without power — it is light and still warm in our buildings. But this is not a mandate. The weather presents different complications for different people.

Faculty, if you are able, please be in touch with your students. Students, please check your email for information from your faculty. And everyone, please take care.

Best,
Jen

Power Outage Update

April 4, 2024
9:57 a.m.

Power has been lost on what we call south loop. We also have reports of a line down on Longfellow Avenue. A significant portion of the Town of Brunswick has lost power. Power is out at the Schiller Coastal Studies Center.

SVP for Academic Affairs Jen Scanlon will soon be providing information about the plan for classes for the remainder of the day.

Please be aware of snow laden branches as they pose a safety risk. Please report any safety concerns of hazards to Safety and Security.

We will continue to keep you updated.
